ALASKA FISHING LODGE ~ ALASKA ECOLOGY LODGE
BLUE
DORY LODGE AND CHARTERS
Blue
Dory Lodge and Charters is located in the Gulf of Alaska, Pleasant
Harbor, Spruce Island, Alaska. Spruce Island is a remote
Alaskan island eleven miles northwest of Kodiak Island. The
Kodiak Island waters are known for world class fishing and wildlife
viewing. The lodge is framed in old growth spruce trees,
wildflowers, and berry bushes, with a spectacular ocean view.
The surrounding hillsides abound in local edible plants and
wildlife.
A
short distance away is Monk’s Lagoon, the home of St. Herman
of Alaska. St. Herman was the first saint to be canonized
on North American soil by the Orthodox Church. The soil
from his grave and the water from his spring are said to have
healing abilities. Two monasteries are a short distance
from the lodge. St. Michael’s Skete and St. Nilus Skete
are the home of Russian Orthodox monks and nuns who keep the
monastic traditions alive.
Guests
may choose world class charter fishing, aboard the F/V Snoopy,
wildlife viewing, or photography. Ecology tours
include plant hikes, trips to Monk’s Lagoon and the monasteries,
kayaking, traditional dory rides, and a trip to the native village
of Ouzinkie. Blue Dory Lodge is a full service lodge specializing
in local organic meals (in season) and special dietary needs.
Come
join us and share in the history and grandeur of Spruce Island,
Alaska.
